Blugold Wrestlers Compete at Border Brawl

WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team competed in the Border Brawl Duals on Saturday, with several Blugolds coming away with victories.

Results

At 125 pounds, Scott Worlund (So.-Pittsville, WI) went 3-0, securing victories over Max Reiderer (Concordia) by fall (2:23) and over Dominic Boggia (North Central) by decision, 7-5. Worlund's third victory came by forfeit.

Nathaniel Behnke (Jr.-Bruce, WI) won his only match of the day at 141, defeating David Leisgang (UW-Oshkosh) by major decision, 9-0.

Ryan Behnke (So.-Bruce, WI) went 1-1 on the day at 165 pounds, falling to Casey Kenealy (Concordia) by decision, 9-5 and beating Eric Kirkman (North Central) by fall (2:06).

At 174 pounds, Mathew Laugen (So.-Fergus Falls, MN) was 2-1. In his first match, Laugen defeated Michael Berg (UW-Oshkosh) by decision 5-1 before falling in round two to Mason Mergener (Concordia) by decision, 7-1. In the final round, Laugen earned his second victory, this time over Matt Marcotte (North Central) by decision, 8-5.

Justin Karkula (So.-Oshkosh, WI) also was 2-1 on the day, winning his first two match by decision, first over Matthew Vaneskey (UW-Oshkosh) 7-3 and Paul Carter (Concordia) 11-5. In his last match, Karkula fell just short, losing by decision 3-2 to Dylan Mahler (North Central).

The Blugolds will be back on the mat on Friday as they travel to Wheaton, Illinois for the Pete Willson Invitational.
