Six Blugolds Named to All-Academic Team

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) — Six UW-Eau Claire women's hockey players have been named to the 2012-13 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic Team, NCHA Commissioner Bill Kronschnabel announced today.

Three Blugolds were named All-Academic selections for the third time in their career, while two players were named for the second time and another was named to the team for the first time.

Three-time winners were, Emily Haluska (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH), Casey McMullen (Sr.-Minneapolis, Minn./South) and Katie Ward (Sr.-Andover, Minn./Coon Rapids).

Haluska was a senior forward for the Blugolds this season and played in all 27 games. She finished with five points (2 goals, 3 assists) this season.

McMullen was the team captain in her senior season for the Blugolds. She played in 25 games and scored two goals along with four assists this season.  

Ward was an assistant captain and one of the leaders on the blue line this season for the Blugolds. She finished her senior season with four assists while appearing in all 27 games.

Abbie Hawthorne (Sr.-Brookfield, Wis./Central) and Nikki Kothenbeutel (Jr.-Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) were selected for the second time in their careers, while Alyssa Ahlgren (So.-Hayward, Wis./Hayward) was selected for the first time.

Hawthorne appeared in 21 games in her final season with the Blugolds and scored one goal. Kothenbeutel played in 27 games this season and scored six goals while picking up seven assists. Ahlgren was just a sophomore and scored one goal with four assists while appearing in 27 games this season.
