Women's Hockey Bounces Back with Win Over Cardinals

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – While the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team fell to Saint Mary's University (Minn.) last night in overtime, the Blugolds bounced back with a 5-2 victory over the Cardinals at Hobbs Ice Center today.

The Blugolds scored two goals in each of the first two periods to build a 4-0 lead. Saint Mary's scored two goals in the final period but the Blugolds also added a goal in the third period.

Five different Blugolds came away with goals this afternoon.

Dani Kerr (Sr.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) got the Blugolds on the board at 7:57 in the first period and just over three minutes later, Sam Knutson (So.-North St. Paul, Minn.) gave the Blugolds a 2-0 lead as she found the back of the net.

On a power-play in the second period at 4:08, Emily Larson (Jr.-Bemidji, Minn.) scored again and Julia Osowski (Fr.-Princeton, Minn.) followed with a goal at 17:45 to put Eau Claire up by four.

In the final period, Saint Mary's scored at 1:21 but Hadley Cookson (Fr.-Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) answered with a goal at 12:17 to give the Blugolds a 5-1 advantage. The Cardinals added a final goal with just over six minutes remaining.

The Blugolds led the shot chart, outshooting the Cardinals 30-17. Mara Stormer (Sr.-Waunakee, Wis.) played the entire game in-goal for Eau Claire and stopped 15 shots.

Eau Claire is now 6-6-2 on the season while Saint Mary's drops to 4-7.

Next up, Eau Claire will play at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Tuesday. The puck is set to drop at 7:30 p.m.
