Women's Hockey Plays to Overtime Draw at River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team faced off against seventh-ranked UW-River Falls in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.  The tie brought an end to a three game losing streak for the Blugolds.

The Blugolds started off well in the match, when Abbie Hawthorne (Sr.-Brookfield, Wis./Central) scored for the team in the 16th minute of the first period.  The Blugold defense then held the Falcons throughout the second period and into the third until Chloe Kinsel scored on a power play for River Falls.

Hawthorne's goal was her first of the season.  Both Emily Haluska (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Casey McMullen (Sr.- Minneapolis, Minn./South) assisted the goal.

The Blugolds had many opportunities to score, recording 22 shots in the game.  Unfortunately, they did not have a shot on net in the entire overtime period, which led to the draw.

Goalie Paige Turner (Fr.-Iron River, Wis./Duluth East) played a great game in net for the Blugolds, saving 31 of River Falls' 32 shot attempts.

The Blugolds will look to pick up their second victory of the season when the face off against River Falls again tomorrow at home.  The game will begin at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center.
