Stormer Notches Shutout for Blugolds on Senior Night

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) — Two goals in a span of 17 seconds proved to be the difference for the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team as they defeated Concordia 2-0 at Hobbs Ice Center on Senior Night.

The Blugolds (9-11-4, 8-8-3 NCHA) acknowledged the seven seniors before the game in what was their second-to-last home game.

The first period was evenly played, with both teams trading off chances to score. After a scoreless first period, the second period was much of the same. Each team had a power-play opportunity in the second period, but neither was able to capitalize.

Finally, the third period saw some scoring. At 8:41, Hadley Cookson (Fr.-Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) scored on a nice wrap-around out of the corner to put the Blugolds up 1-0.

Just 17 seconds later, Dani Kerr (Sr.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) scored on a scrum in front of the net to give UW-Eau Claire a little insurance and a 2-0 lead.

Mara Stormer
(Sr.-Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) made sure that lead stood for the remainder of the game as she picked up the shutout victory. She made 31 saves in her seventh start of the season to improve to 3-3-1 this year.

The Falcons pulled their goalie with 1:13 remaining, but they were not able to get anything past Stormer. The Blugolds outshot the Falcons 37-31. Concordia was 0-for-4 on the power-play, while the Blugolds were 0-for-1.

Both teams will square off again Saturday afternoon at Hobbs Ice Center. The game is set for 2 p.m. and it will be the last home game of the season for the Blugolds.
