MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Jessie Ruden (Sr. - Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) was named the WIAC Kwik Trip Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. It marks the fifth time Ruden has received the honor in her career.
Ruden opened the season last Friday by pouring in 30 points and distributing nine assists in a 94-83 victory over Wartburg College (Iowa) — an NCAA Tournament qualifier last year. She made 10 of 15 field goals, including a 6-for-9 mark from 3-point range. A day later, she helped the Blugolds to a 55-52 comeback win over Bethel University (Minn.). Ruden scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and had three assists against the Royals. Defensively, she made a pair of crucial steals in the final minute of the game to seal the victory for the Blugolds. She finished the game with four steals.
The Blugolds return to action Tuesday night at Zorn Arena when they host Minnesota Morris. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
