ATLANTA (Blugolds.com) – The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced the 2015 Academic Team Honor Rolls with the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire women's team finishing 15th in NCAA Division III.
"We are extremely proud and excited for our team to be honored among the elite academic teams in Division III," said Head Coach Tonja Englund. "It is a statement to the quality of the student-athlete we have here at UW-Eau Claire who excel both on the court and in the classroom."
While earning a second place finish in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), the Blugolds recorded an overall team Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.518 for the spring semester.
"It is impressive to have student-athletes with such rigorous academic majors who achieve such high grade point averages and balance their lives the way they do," said Englund. "It is a tremendous testament to the dedication and hard work our players display in the classroom, on the court and in our community."
Eleven Blugolds finished with at least a 3.5 GPA in this spring. UW-Eau Claire was the only WIAC team to make the Top 25 and also boosted the 20th strongest schedule out of 440 NCAA Division III women's basketball teams.
"We expect our student-athletes to be leaders in the classroom and on the court or field," said Athletic Director Dan Schumacher. "We are proud of our women's basketball team's achievement and look to build on it for 2015-16."
