Women’s Basketball downs Hamline 78-50

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team finished the weekend 2-0 after a 78-50 win over Hamline University in the second day of the Tip-Off Classic on Sunday night in Zorn Arena.

The Blugolds took control from the opening tip, scoring the first nine points of the game. A Piper three at the 11:56 mark pulled Hamline within one but Kristin Sahr (Sr.-Stillwater, MN) responded with a three of her own to quiet the Piper rally.  The Blugolds never looked back as they took a 37-21 lead into the half.

In the second half the Blugolds continued their dominance, building leads as much as 23 points.

The Blugolds shot 54 percent (28 for 52) and 60 percent (12 for 20) from behind the arc. UW-Eau Claire out-rebounded Hamline 43-22.

Teenie Lichtfuss (Jr.-Oshkosh, WI) led the Blugolds in scoring, recording 18 points. Jenni LaCroix (Fr.-Verona, WI) added 12 points while Courtney Lewis (Sr.-Praire du Chien, WI) chipped in 10. Madison Johnson (Jr.-Osceola, WI) tallied a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Hamline's Jordan Sammons led all scorers with 19 points.

The Blugolds return to Zorn Arena on Tuesday, November 18 and will host Saint Mary's (MN). Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
