Strong Offensive Effort Moves Blugolds to 13-0

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com)--The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team hosted a home matchup at 4:00 PM against Lawrence University. The #24 ranked Blugolds defeated the Vikings 5-0 in a strong offensive game.

Eau Claire started hot right from kick off with Ethan Anderson (Jr.-Burnsville, MN) scoring off a free kick with an assist from Carter Thiesfeld (So.-Forest Lake, MN) in the early minutes of the game. The Blugold kept possession of the ball a majority of the first half with multiple scoring opportunities.

Eau Claire ended the first half 1-0 holding the Vikings scoreless with no shots on goal.

The Blugolds wasted no time to start the half with a goal scored at 45:31 by Carter Thiesfeld assisted by midfielder Jacob Sampson (So.-McFarland, WI). Forward Nathan Donovan (So.-Hazel Green, WI) went to the line for a penalty kick at the 56th minute. The initial shot was saved, but Donovan cleaned up the rebound for a goal moving the Blugolds to 3-0 advantage. Donovan is the leading scorer for the Blugolds with 12 goals in 13 total games.

In the 65th minute of play, Cooper Roberts (So.-Apple Valley, MN) put the ball to the back of the net giving Jacob Sampson his second assist of the match. Porter Ball (Jr.-Minneapolis, MN/Holy Angels) was the fifth player of the game to score at 74:28 assisted by Roberts.

Eau Claire dominated with a 5-0 win against Vikings while only allowing one shot on goal.

The Blugolds (13-0) will hit the road for their next game Thursday, October 4th at Augsburg for a 7:30 PM kick off.
