Men's Soccer Moves to 2-0 with Win Over the Pioneers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis (blugolds.com) The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team hosted their second game of the season against the UW-Platteville Pioneers. The Blugolds kept their momentum going by securing a 2-0 statement win over the Pioneers.

Box Score

The first half was a back and fourth battle between the Blugolds and the Pioneers. It wasn't until 32:10 where UW-Eau Claire's Owen Williams (Fr.-Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) capitalized on the opportunity to put the Blugolds up 1-0 at the end of the first half with an assist from Cooper Roberts (So-Apple Valley, MN) and Carter Thiesfeld (So.-Forest Lake, MN). Both teams had offensive runs with opportunities to put points on the board. Ultimately the Blugold defense was able to hold the Pioneers scoreless in the first half.

To start the second half, both teams had a strong offensive presence. A foul allowed the Blugolds to set up for a free kick that put Ethan Anderson (Jr.-Burnsville, MN) in the position to score and move to 2-0 at 63:24. The remainder of the half UW-Eau Claire moved the ball with ease and had multiple opportunities to add to the score. Eau Claire kept composed in the second half and secured the 2-0 win over the Pioneers.

Spencer Banks (So.-Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) anchored the Blugolds in the back with a shutout and five important saves. Banks now has a record of 2-0 in goal and continues to be a critical piece to the Blugolds success.

The Blugolds (2-0) will host another home competition on Tuesday, September 6th against St. Scholastica. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm at Simpson Field.
