RIPON, WI (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team was back on the road for the first time in nine days as they faced off against Ripon College Tuesday afternoon. Three corner kick goals propelled the Blugolds over the Red Hawks 5-0 and earned them their sixth shutout and tenth consecutive win of the year.
The Blugolds stuck to their recipe of strike first and strike often as Sam Lynch (Jr. – Verona, WI) knocked home his sixth goal of the season in the fifth minute of play. The corner kick in from Carter Thiesfeld (So. – Forest Lake, MN) was finished by Sam to give Eau Claire the early 1-0 lead. Twenty minutes later, Lynch and Thiesfeld would connect yet again off a corner kick to increase the UWEC lead to 2-0.
The two-goal lead at halftime was quickly increased in the second frame as Nathan Donovan (So. – Hazel Green, WI/Wahlert Catholic) tallied his ninth goal of the season after connecting passes from Carter Thiesfeld and Will Heinen (So. – Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) found the Blugold forward with space to slot home his shot past the Ripon goalkeeper. UW-Eau Claire finished the game with a season high 16 shots on goal.
Max Lynch (Fr. – Verona, WI) joined the goal party in the 52nd minute on a low shot to the left corner to increase the Blugold lead to 4-0. Heinen and Thiesfeld continued their productive days with assists on the fourth goal of the afternoon. Will Miers (So. – Columbus, MN/Centennial) found the final tally of the match on a corner kick from Daniel Muths (So. – Stillwater, MN) in the 82nd minute to seal the 5-0 victory.
The Blugolds (10-0) will return to Eau Claire, before another road trip on Saturday, September 24th when UWEC will travel to Winona, MN to face off against Saint Mary's University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30PM.
