KENOSHA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Competing in two matches on the opening day of the Carthage College Tournament, the UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team fell twice, 3-0 against 15th-ranked Elmhurst College (Ill.) and 3-0 against host Carthage.
Facing Elmhurst, the Blugolds kept the opening set close but ended up falling 25-21. Elmhurst took the following two sets 25-16 to win the match.
As a team, the Blugolds had a .156 hitting percentage, finishing with 27 kills. Katrina Raskie (So.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) led the team with eight kills and a .276 hitting percentage. She also had a team-high 13 digs. Jenna Smits (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) finished with 25 set assists to lead the Blugolds.
Against Carthage, the Blugolds led just twice during the match, once in the second set and once in the third set. Carthage won the match with scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-15.
The Blugolds finished with 31 kills, 10 of which came from Megan Tracy (Sr.-New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper). Tying for a match-high with 12 digs was Talia Jaskulske (Fr.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) while Smits led the Blugolds with 26 set assists.
Eau Claire is now 4-7 on the season.
Saturday the Blugolds will compete two more times at the Carthage College Tournament. They will start the day against Alma College (Mich.) at 10 a.m. and will close the weekend with a match against the University of Chicago at 2 p.m.
