Blugolds Earn NWCA Scholar All-American Honors

MANHEIM, PA (blugolds.com) – On Monday, the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced the 2021 Scholar All-American individual honorees for NCAA Division III. Out of the 413 individuals honored, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team had a program record 11 wrestlers recognized.

The Blugolds capped their historic 2021 season with their hard work in the classroom. The 11 wrestlers named Scholar All-American honors were Eli Audley (Sr. - Pewaukee, WI/Arrowhead), Grant Balconi (Sr. - Muskego, WI), Jake Drexler (Jr. - Stratford, WI), Austen Hakes (Sr. - River Falls, WI), James Huntley (Sr. - Woodbury, MN/Stillwater), Evan Lawrence (Sr. - Hugo, MN/Mahtomedi), Wyler Lubeck (Fr. - Vesper, WI/Lincoln), Jack Marley (Jr. - Trempealeau, WI/Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau), Tristan Massie (So. - Hillsdale, WI/Baron), Chase Melton (So. Spooner, WI), and Sam Melton (So. - Shell Lake, WI/Spooner). 

Out of the 84 institutions represented, UW-Eau Claire was tied for second with the most athletes recognized.  

The Blugolds finished their season with an overall record of 3-2 and placed 2nd at the WIAC Championships, the highest the program had ever finished in its existence.
