Wrestling falls to Warhawks on the road

WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team looked to bounce back on Tuesday at UW-Whitewater. After a scoreless loss in their home opener, the Blugolds were able to earn themselves some team points, but it would not be enough as they took a 12-23 loss.

Results

The Blugolds started slow again losing their first four matches. At 149, Jake Drexler (Jr. – Stratford, WI) loss a close battle to Jake Buford (Dec. 5-4). Tristan Massie (So. – Hillsdale, WI/Barron) garnered the first Eau Claire win of the night at 157 against Isaiah Mohmed, by fall (2:34). Sam Melton (So. – Shell Lake, WI/Spooner) would also pick up a victory in his matchup at 184 against Ryan Vedner (Dec. 6-3).

The final Blugold win would come from James Huntley at 197, after defeating Josh Nowak (Dec. 7-2).

The Blugolds will be back in competition on Friday, February 12th when the travel to Stevens Point, WI for two duals. They will take on UW-Oshkosh at 5:30PM and UW-Stevens Point at 6:30PM.
