EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team started their weekend off at home in the first game of a double header against the Augsburg College but fell to the Auggies by a score of 1-0.

Box Score

With both teams coming out flying in the first period, it was a battle of who would let up first. Augsburg would lead in shots after the first period 12-9, but the Eau Claire power-play looked good as usual and were getting many chances.

In the second period the Auggies would finally strike. Bridget Wagner would net her third goal of season after a loose puck fell right to her stick. The Blugolds would battle back, out-shooting the Auggies 13-2 in the period. Neither team had any penalties, but the pace of the game would only increase.

The final period would seem like a chess match as both teams would control the puck in their offensive zones for a period of time before it would go either way. The Blugolds finished the game out-shooting their opponents once again, but they just could not find the back of the net.

Erin Connolly (Fr.-Mequon, WI/Homestead) found herself in nets once again, but ended up with her 4th loss of the season and moves to 9-4-1 overall.

The Blugolds (11-5-1, 1-1 WIAC) will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to finish off the double header against the Auggies Saturday, January 7th. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
