EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team skated to a 2-1 victory against University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday night to open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play.
In the second period saw all most of the action with, UW-Superior scoring with just three minutes left in the period, but Eau Claire's Mariah Czech (Jr.-Andover, MN) fired back within a minute of Superior's goal. She was assisted by Lexi Wilson (Fr.-Eagan, MN) and the period ended with a tie score of 1-1.
The third period was close to the end, but Holly Turnbull (Fr.-Hayward, WI) fired the puck past Superior's defense with an assist from Kelsey Rafferty (So.-De Pere, WI) with just minutes left in the game.
Goalie Paige Turner (Sr.-Iron River, WI/Duluth East) had a total of 20 saves for the Blugolds.
Eau Claire (3-1-1, 1-0-0 WIAC) battles UW-Superior again Saturday afternoon. The game starts at 2 p.m. in Superior.
