Green Scores Overtime Winner to Complete Weekend Sweep

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team wrapped up their regular season schedule on Saturday evening as they hosted UW-Stout on Senior Night. The Blugolds battled back all night and completed their comeback in overtime on a Quinn Green (Jr. – West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East) tip out front to earn the 4-3 victory.

After a scoreless first period, Blugolds found themselves trailing often during the second game of the weekend series as the Blue Devils found the game's first goal at 4:11 of the second period. Kyle Oleksiuk (So. – Winnipeg, Manitoba) found tied the game just before the halfway mark of the first period to make it 1-1. Stout refused to bend or break as the visitor's found a lead once again at the 15:44 mark to give Eau Claire a 2-1 deficit at the first intermission.

Ty Readman (Sr. – Edmonton, Alberta/Vimy Ridge Academy) found the second equalizer of the night just minutes into the middle frame for his second goal of the year. Oleksiuk and Jack Johnston (Jr. – St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy & Summit School) earned assists on Readman's first tally of the night. The Blue Devils answered three minutes later to take back their lead. Ty Readman and the Blugolds forced overtime with Readman's second tally of the evening at the 14:24 mark to even things at 3-3.

In the overtime period, Quinn Green found the game winning goal on a tip out front from a shot from Connor Szmul (Jr. – Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) to give UWEC the 4-3 final.

Max Gutjahr (Fr. – Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced to earn his 15th win of the season. Gutjahr improves to 15-8-1 on the year.

The Blugolds (16-8-1, WIAC 9-5-1) earn the second seed in the WIAC playoff tournament with the overtime win. UWEC will await the first round winner of UW-Superior and Northland College. Eau Claire will host a two game series beginning on Friday, February 24th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7PM at Hobbs Ice Arena.
