No. 14 Men’s Hockey hangs on to beat Foresters

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – The No. 14 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team finished their road trip unbeaten with a 5-3 win over Lake Forest College on Saturday at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

After a slow start to the season, the Blugolds have now won three games in a row with a big unbeaten road trip capped off with a win over the Foresters who defeated WIAC rival UW-River Falls the night before.

The Blugolds were in the Forester zone early and often in a first period that saw the Blugolds fire 18 shots on goal.  

UW-Eau Claire broke through first in this one on Todd Koritzinsky's (Jr. – Verona, WI) fourth goal of the season at the 6:12 mark assisted by Kyle Lee (Jr. – Wausau, WI) and David Henry (Sr. – Foster City, CA).

The Blugolds would take that 1-0 lead into the first intermission while killing off three Lake Forest power plays during the period.

UW-Eau Claire extended their lead early in the second period on a goal from Patrick Moore (Sr. – Grand Rapids, MN) just under four minutes in assisted by Mac Jansen (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN) and Adam Kleven (Fr. – Peoria, AZ).

Moore found the back of the net for his second goal of the game midway through the period this time on the power play assisted by Henry and Colton Wolter (Jr. – Fairbanks, AK) to make it 3-0.

After the two periods of play, the Blugolds had a commanding 34-15 lead in shots on goal.

The Blugolds wasted little time adding to their lead in the final frame as Jansen found the back of the net just 43 seconds in assisted by Garret Clemment (Sr. – Wausau, WI)) and Moore to make it 4-0 on the junior forwards' sixth goal of the year.

The Foresters wouldn't go away quietly however as they found two goals of their own in a near five minute span scored by Charlie Izaguirre and Zach Feldman to cut the Blugolds' lead in hallf with 10:19 left to play in the game.

UW-Eau Claire responded with a big goal scored by Henry assisted by Koritzinsky to make it 5-2 with 6:46 left to play. The goal was Henry's third point of the game.

The Foresters would add a late goal scored byAnthony Annunziato, but the Blugolds would hang on to earn the 5-3 win.

Goaltender Jay Deo (Sr. - Langley, British Columbia) made his eighth straight start and saved 24 of the 27 shots he faced in the win to improve to 5-1-2 on the season.The Blugolds had 10 players record three shots or more in the win as they dominated in final shots on goal 40-27.

The Blugolds (5-1-2) will head back home looking to continue their winning streak on short rest to take on Northland College (3-3-1) on Nov. 22 before getting the rest of the month off.
