Blugolds to face Whitman College (Wash.) in NCAA Tournament First-Round

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – For the first time in 19 years, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team is headed to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.

The Blugolds defeated No. 6 ranked UW-Platteville in the semifinal round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship Tournament. The Blugolds then fell to the WIAC Champion UW-Oshkosh, but were selected for the national tournament on Monday, March 2nd.

Eau Claire will travel to St. John's University (Minn.) with a First Round matchup against Whitman College (Wash.). The first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament will tip-off on Friday, March 6th at 5pm.

With a win, the Blugolds will advance to the Second Round and play the winner of the Saint John's-Ripon matchup on Saturday, March 7th at 7pm. The Elite 8 and Final 4 will be hosted by Manchester University (Ind.) on March 20th and 21st and the Championship will be played on Sunday, April 5th at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Ga.
