TAMPA, Florida (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team took second place at the Tampa Bay Shootout falling to DePauw, 66-48 on Tuesday.
Coming off a double-overtime win, the Blugolds struggled offensively against a tough Tiger defense. While three's triggered their comeback the night before and fueled the victory, Eau Claire's shots wouldn't fall Tuesday as they netted only two three-pointers in the game.
George Diekelman (Fr.-Stevens Point, WI) was the leading scorer for the Eau Claire, recording 13 points. DePauw's Tommy Fernitz tallied a game-high 21 points.
Tyson Kalien (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI) was named to the All-Tourament Team, playing a key role in the double-overtime win over Hobart. Kalien scored 24 points in the win and chipped in seven points against DePauw.
The Blugolds (4-8, 0-3 WIAC) return to conference play Saturday, as they travel to La Crosse to take on the Eagles. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
