EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team fell to UW-River Falls Saturday night, 65-59.
It was a close, physical battle from the start with five lead changes and the score was tied eight times in the opening 20 minutes.
The second half continued where the first left off, with the several more ties and lead changes, but the momentum shifted toward River Falls for good with a late three-pointer. From there the Falcons never looked back and nailed several free throws to seal the victory.
Free throws were the key stat line as River Falls converted 24 of 38 attempts while the Blugolds were nine for 14.
Tyson Kalien (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI) led the Blugolds with 22 points while Lewis Mau (Sr.-Colfax, WI) added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Grant Erickson paced the Falcons with 22 points.
The Blugolds (3-5, 0-2 WIAC) will return to Zorn Wednesday as they host UW-Superior in conference play. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
