Women's Cross Country Ready for National Championship

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team is set to compete in the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship, hosted by UW-Oshkosh. The race will take place Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.

The Blugolds, who won their fifth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship this season, have done well at nationals the past few years and are coming off a runner-up finish at regionals.

A season ago, the Blugolds finished fourth at nationals while winning the national title in 2009. In 2008, Eau Claire took fifth while finishing eighth in 2007.

This season, the following Blugolds will compete at nationals:

Ashlyn Mauer (Jr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.)
Lucy Ramquist (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.)
Nikki Rendler (So.-Lodi, Wis.)
Kacey Rindy (Sr.-Fennimore, Wis.)
Madi Sawyer (So.-Champlin, Minn./Park)
Steph Sjostrom (Jr.-Champlin, Minn./Park)
Alyssa Sybilrud (Sr.-Savage, Minn./Burnsville)

This is the fourth straight year Sybilrud is competing at nationals. She finished with All-American honors the past two seasons, taking 21st place in 2009 and 23rd place in 2010. In 2008, she finished 99th.

Rindy will compete at nationals for her third year in a row. In 2009, she finished in 138th place while taking 142nd a year ago.

Mauer and Sawyer are competing on the national level for the second straight time. Last year they finished 129th and 133rd, respectively.

Ramquist, Rendler and Sjostrom will all appear at nationals for the first time in their careers.
