Women's Cross Country Races to First at JV Cup

DECORAH, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team snatched six of the top 10 spots to win the Luther JV Cup hosted by Luther College (Iowa) this afternoon.

Eau Claire edged out host Luther for the top team finish, totaling 25 points on the afternoon. Luther earned 35 points for second while UW-La Crosse grabbed third with 74 total points. Five teams competed in the event.

Alana Jenkins (So.- Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) led the Blugold effort, completing the course in just 23:23.7 for the top individual spot. Newcomer Kelsey Jaeger (Fr.- Waukesha, Wis./West) also placed in the top five with a solid third-place effort of 23:35.9.

Rounding out the top five Eau Claire competitors, Shelby Owens (Fr.-Mineral Point, Wis.), Victoria Janasz (So.- Elk River, Minn.) and Shaina Weatherhead (So.- New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. Owens led the trio with a time of 23:46.3. Janasz and Weatherhead crossed the line just two tenths of a second apart, led by Janasz's 23:59.4.

Eau Claire will next compete at NCAA Division III Regionals hosted by Augustana College (Ill.). Competition is set to begin at 11 a.m.
