Blugolds Sweep Yellowjackets During Senior Night

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 14 ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team was back at home on Tuesday night for their last regular season home game of the year as they hosted the UW-Superior Yellowjackets. As the team celebrated senior night, the seven Blugold seniors combined for 41 of the team's 43 kills, earning the team a 3-0 sweep over Superior.

The opening set featured a strong start by the Eau Claire seniors as Arianna Barrett (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/North) and Jordan Witzel (Sr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) tallied three kills each to lead UWEC's offense. Despite trailing early on, the Blugolds put together a 5-0 run halfway through to take a 15-14 lead. During the momentum swing, Sheridan Dettmann (Sr. – Watertown, WI) recorded her two service aces on the night to bring the Blugolds to the forefront. To close out the set, UWEC went on a 7-0 run to earn the 25-17 set victory.

The second set recorded as Eau Claire's best offensive set with 20 kills and a .390 team hitting percentage. Barrett and Witzel continued their dominance from the net with a combined 13 kills in the middle frame. Charlie Nelson (Jr. – Lakeville, MN/Farmington) tallied 15 of her 35 total assists and 6 of her 15 total digs in the second set. An early four-point lead by UWEC was never reached as the Blugolds took set 2, 25-20.

Selena Levendoski (Sr. – Clear Lake, WI/Clayton) led the charge in the final set with three kills in a row to get the Blugolds off to a 5-3 lead. Levendoski finished the night with 10 kills. An 8-3 run to start the set and an 8-2 run at the end sealed the 25-9 set victory to complete the 3-0 sweep. Sheridan Dettmann and Sarah Kuchcik (Sr. – Naperville, IL/North) combined for 17 digs on the night as the Blugold defense surrendered only 28 kills.

The Blugolds (21-6, WIAC 4-2) will complete their regular season schedule with a road trip to UW-Whitewater on Friday, October 28th. First serve between the Blugolds and Warhawks is set for 7PM.
