Blugold Volleyball Rolls Past Sabres for Bounce Back Victory

FOND DU LAC, WI (blugolds.com) – The No. 13 ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold volleyball team continued their road trip on Saturday as they faced nonconference opponent, Marian University. After falling the night before to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe, UW-Stevens Point, the Blugolds bounced back with a 3-0 sweep over the Sabres.

Avery Pennekamp (Fr. – McFarland, WI) and Selena Levendoski (Sr. – Clear Lake, WI/Clayton) led the UW-Eau Claire offense during the afternoon contest with a combined 27 kills between the two Blugolds. Pennekamp finished the day hitting at .652 and Levendoski tallied a .688 hitting percentage to keep the offense on cruise control.

As a team, UWEC swung for .426 with 51 kills and kept Marian to just 19 kills and a .162 total hitting percentage.

From the service line, Sheridan Dettmann (Sr. – Watertown, WI) led Eau Claire with four service aces and Bailey Leeke (Fr. – Lakeville, MN/North) was close behind with two of the team's ten total aces on the day.

Abby Frie (Fr. – Minneota, MN) tallied a career high five kills in three sets as Charlie Nelson (Jr. – Lakeville, MN/Farmington) recorded 37 assists on the day. Defensively, five Blugolds had five or more digs during the three sets played.

The Blugolds (18-5, WIAC 4-1) will return to WIAC play on Wednesday, October 19th when they host UW-Oshkosh. First serve is scheduled for 7PM.
