Blugolds Split at Cornell Quadrangular

MOUNT VERNON, IA (blugolds.com)--The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's volleyball team is on the road this weekend competing at the Cornell Quadrangular. The Blugolds went 1-1 on the day falling to the Coe College Kohawks in three sets. Eau Claire then defeated the Cornell College Rams in four. The squad now moves to 13-4 on the year.  

The Blugolds faced the Kohakws in their first game of the Cornell Quadrangular. Eau Claire fell to Coe in three sets (22-25, 22-25, 21-25). Jordan Witzel (Sr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) tallied 13 kills in the first game to lead the Blugolds. Overall, the team posted a hitting percentage of 13.2% with Maren Saunders (Sr.-St. Michael, MN) leading with a percentage of 72.7%.  

Charlie Nelson (Jr.-Lakeville, MN/Farmington) added 32 assists to help keep the Blugolds close in the three-set loss.  

In the second game of the day the Blugolds took on the Rams. Eau Claire dominated the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17. Cornell made a run in the third set winning 25-20, but the Blugolds bounced back to win the game in the fourth set 25-20.  

Arianna Barrett (Sr.-Lakeville, MN) led the team with a total of 22 kills and a 38.7% hitting percentage. Overall, the team finished with a hitting percentage of 21.9%. Eau Claire finished with 52 assists with setter Charlie Nelson claiming 45 of them.  

Eau Claire's Charlie Nelson and Sheridan Dettmann (Sr.-Watertown, WI) were named to the All-Tournament team. 

The Blugolds (13-4, WIAC 3-0) will be back home Wednesday, October 5th where they will host the UW-Stout Blue Devils for a 7:00 PM start.
