Sara Axness Sets School Record at NCAA Diving Regional

GRANVILLE, Ohio (Blugolds.com) – Sara Axness (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) led three UW-Eau Claire women's divers as they competed at an NCAA Division III Diving Regional at Denison University (Ohio) over the past two days.

Saturday in the one-meter dive, Axness took second with a score of 466.70, setting a new school record. Axness also took third in the three-meter dive on Friday, scoring 461.65 points. She has now unofficially qualified to compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship, which will be held March 19-22 in Indianapolis, Ind., becoming the first Blugold diver to compete at nationals since the 2001-02 season. The official announcement of selections will be made by the NCAA on Monday.

Also competing this weekend were Amanda Baker (So.-Hudson, Wis.) and Courtney Miller (Fr.-Richfield, Minn.).

Baker took seventh in the one-meter dive on Saturday with 427.40 points after also coming in seventh place on Friday in the three-meter dive with a score of 439.20.

Miller finished in 14th place on Friday in the three-meter dive with a score of 404.80 and took 11th place on Saturday in the one-meter dive with 421.15 points.
