Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Second at Pointer Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team moved up one spot from the first day to finish in second place out of five teams at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational today.

The Blugolds came in second with 829.5 points while UW-La Crosse won with 1,194.5.

Two Blugolds won events this weekend, one diving and one swimming.

On the one-meter board, Sara Axness (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) took first place with 446.60 points, less than three points shy of the Blugolds' school record while was set 20 years ago.

Elissa Hermsen (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.) was the other Blugold to capture a victory, winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.39.

Eau Claire had nine other top-three finishes on the weekend.

The Blugolds will be home next Saturday, hosting UW-Whitewater for Senior Day and the final home meet of the year. Diving will get started at 9:30 a.m. while swimming will get underway at 1 p.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
