Four Wrestlers Finish in Top Five at Blugold Open

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Hosting the 36th Annual Blugold Open, four UW-Eau Claire wrestlers found their way into the top five in the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

Two Blugolds finished in second place while two others took fifth.

At 141 pounds, Nathaniel Behnke (So.-Bruce, Wis.) narrowly fell in the title match, 5-3, to Adam Yde of UW-Parkside to take second. Behnke won four straight to get to the championship to finish with a 4-1 record on the day.

Ryan Seidler (Sr.-Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship), competing at 149 pounds, also took second place. Seidler opened with a bye and then won three straight to advance to the finals. In the title match he fell 14-4 to Andrew Crone of UW-Madison.

Claiming fifth place were Matthew Laugen (Fr.-Fergus Falls, Minn./Kennedy) at 165 pounds and Luke Ortscheid (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./West) at 184 pounds.

Next up for the Blugolds is the WIAC Championship, which is scheduled for Feb. 15 at UW-La Crosse. Action will get underway at 9 a.m.
