Three Blugolds Finish in Top Six at Matman Invitational

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – Three UW-Eau Claire wrestlers finished in the top six as the Blugolds took sixth place out of nine teams at the Matman Invitational, hosted by Cornell College (Iowa) today.

Results

The Blugolds scored 38.5 points while No. 1-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa) won the invite with 154.5 points.

Nathaniel Behnke (So.-Bruce, Wis.) led the Blugolds as he took fourth place at 141 pounds. In the third-place match, he fell to seventh-ranked Conner Campo from Wartburg, 6-3, to take fourth. Behnke finished with a 3-2 record on the day.

At 149 pounds, Ryan Seidler (Sr.-Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship) took fifth place. He won his first match of the day, then fell in the semifinal match. Seidler then won two more before falling again to compete for fifth place. In the fifth-place match, he won by medical forfeit.

Luke Ortscheid (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./West), competing at 184 pounds, came in sixth place. He won three times and lost twice to advance to the fifth-place match where he fell short, 8-3.

The Blugolds will be home Wednesday, facing UW-Stevens Point. The conference dual will get underway at 7 p.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
