Wrestlers Host Blugold Open; Three Blugolds Place in Top Six

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team hosted the Blugold Open at McPhee Physical Education Center today and three Blugolds placed in the top six in their respective weight classes.

The Blugolds' best finish came from Nathaniel Behnke (Fr.-Bruce, Wis.) in the 141-pound division as he finished second.  He lost to Rylan Lubeck of Wisconsin by a 4-2 decision in the championship match.

The next best finish was by Mat Rieckhoff (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) in the 184-pound class.  He finished in third place, beating Dalton Westerlund of Upper Iowa by a 6-1 decision.

Finally, Zackary Sirny (Fr.-Wild Rose, Wis.) placed fourth in the 125-pound division.  Sirny was bested in the third-place match by Quenten Fisher of UW-La Crosse by a pin in 4:08.

The Blugolds' next competition will come at the WIAC Championship, on Sunday February 17th.  The event, which will be hosted by UW-Eau Claire, will begin at 9 a.m.
