Wrestling Falls to Both UW-Platteville and St. Olaf

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Despite eight match victories, the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team found itself on the losing end in matches against UW-Platteville and St. Olaf College (Minn.) in the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

First, the Blugolds fell to UW- Platteville 27-16.  The Blugolds scored their 16 points with victories by Nathaniel Behnke (Fr.-Bruce, Wis.), Steven Fisher (Jr.-Greenfield, Wis.), Mat Rieckhoff (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and Luke Ortscheid (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./West). Rieckhoff won his 197-pound match with a pin in 27 seconds.

Shortly after, the Blugold wrestlers squared off against St. Olaf and lost 32-13. Once again, Behnke, Reickhoff, and Ortscheid won their matches, with Ian Jones (Fr.-Murphy, Texas/Plano East) also beating his opponent by a 9-3 decision at 133 pounds.

The losses brought the Blugolds to 0-7 on the season, but throughout the year Behnke has had a good season.  He won both of his matches today, after being named the WIAC Athlete of the Week this past week.  Behnke has won eight straight matches at 141 pounds and is now 12-4 on the season. 

The Blugolds will look for their first victory in their next match, which will be this Tuesday against UW-La Crosse.  The match will be at La Crosse and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
