EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire women's hockey team avenged Friday's loss to UW–Stevens Point with a 4-3 win over the Pointers at Hobbs Ice Arena on Saturday night.

Box Score

The Blugolds wasted no time getting on the board after Courtney Wittig (So.-Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) netted her 15th of season after scooping up a rebound in front of the Pointer net. The assist would go to Kelly Knetter (So.-Wausau, WI/West) and Eau Claire would keep rolling from there. With just a little over eight minutes left in the first period, Emily Bauer (Fr. – Wausau, WI/East) would also find a loose rebound in front of the net and would put it over the goalie's glove for a two goal lead. Stevens Point would answer just two minutes later after a slap-shot from Alex Grubbs. The Blugolds would lead in face-offs and shots after the first period.

The second period would showcase the physical battle between these teams. The first penalties of the game would come just seven minutes in but both teams would kill off the power-play. Later in the period, Erin Goodell (So. – Maplewood, MN/Woodbury) and Knetter would both find the back of the net off of scrums in front of the net. The Blugolds continued to dominate the face-off circle and looked to continue their success in the third period.

The physical battle between these teams really showed in the third period as there were six penalties within the first 13 minutes. The Pointers would capitalize on two of their power-plays. The Blugolds would hold off a strong Stevens Point attack in the closing minutes, earning them the victory.

Erin Connolly (Fr.-Mequon, WI/Homestead) would stop 25 of 28 on the night and would get her 13th win of the season.

The win also ties a school record for wins, matching the total of the 2004-05 squad that went 15-9-1.

The Blugolds (15-7-1, 4-3 WIAC) will be back in action Friday, Feb. 10th as the host No. 2 UW-River Falls. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
