Connolly and Erickson Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) -UW-Eau Claire women's hockey goalie Erin Connolly (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) and women's gymnast Tori Erickson (Woodbury, Minn.) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Connolly recorded two shutout wins during the week with 45 saves (.970 save percentage) and gave up only one goal in three games for the women's hockey team. She tallied 14 saves in a 1-0 victory over St. Olaf College (Minn.) on Jan. 4. In a 1-0 loss to Augsburg College (Minn.) on Jan. 6, she stopped 19 shots. In a 5-0 victory over Augsburg on Jan. 7, Connolly collected 15 saves and earned her second shutout of the week.

In Erickson’s first time competing in the all-around since her first year, she recorded personal bests in the vault (9.625), balance beam (9.625), floor exercise (9.8) and all–around (37.525).  Erickson tied for the second on the vault competing against NCAA Division I Central Michigan University and Hamline University (Minn.), and placed fifth on the balance beam and third on the floor exercise.

The women's hockey team is back on the ice on Friday Jan. 20 as they take on UW-Superior at 7pm at Hobbs Ice Arena. Erickson and the gymnastics team will compete in the Ozone Classic in Tennessee this weekend.
