Women's Hockey falls to Pointers, 2-1

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team went on the road for another Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match-up on Friday night, falling to the Pointers, 2-1.

The Blugolds got on the board first as Erin Goodell (So. – Maplewood, MN/Woodbury) found the back of the net at the 10:54 mark of the first period off assists from Claudia Gagnon (Sr. Duluth, MN/East) and Jennifer Thomsen (Jr – Apple Valley, MN).

The Pointers had an answer a few minutes later as Allison Karrmann's shot knotted the score at one apiece.

Stevens Point got the go-ahead goal at 16:15 of the second period off the stick of Cara Lemirande. The Blugolds out-shot the Pointers 9-5 in the period.

Eau Claire held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the third period but neither team would score.

Erin Connolly (Fr.-Mequon, WI/Homestead) took the loss in goal, recording 21 saves on the night.

The Blugolds (14-6-1, 3-2 WIAC) will be back in action next Friday as they return to Stevens Point for game two of the three game series. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
