Women's Hockey Tripped Up by Yellowjackets

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) -- It was the battle of the birds against the bees on Saturday night in the second consecutive night of WIAC play for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The game ended in a loss for Eau Claire with a final score of 3-2.

Answering back from last night's loss, Superior was first on the board. The first period saw two goals by Superior as Eau Claire battled against some tough offensive plays by the Yellowjackets.

Eau Claire came back in the second period with intensity and scored 2 goals by the end of the period after Superior found the back of the net for their final goal of the game at 7:02 into the second.

First on the board for Eau Claire was Rachel Azuma (Fr.-Oak Park, Ill.), scoring her first goal of the season. Azuma was assisted by Kelsey Rafferty (So.-De Pere, Wis.) at 9:00 into the second. Mariah Czech (Jr.-Andover, Minn.) was next to find the back of the net on a power play with an assist by Lauren Norgren (So.-Fergus Falls, Minn.) at 19:19. The second period ended 3-2 and finalized the score for the night.

Paige Turner (Sr.-Iron River, Wis. /Duluth East) was in goal again for the Blugolds and ended the night with 29 saves.

Eau Claire's (9-8-4, 2-4-2) next WIAC game is against UW-Stevens Point (11-7-2, 3-3-2) next Saturday night at 7 p.m.
