Czech's OT game-winner gives Women's Hockey 2nd-straight win

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire women's hockey team skated hard on Wednesday night and notched a second consecutive win with a 2-1 overtime victory against St. Catherine University.

The Blugolds skated onto the ice with high energy after last night's victory, outshooting St. Catherine's and staying close to the puck during the first period.

Lauren Norgren (So.-Fergus Falls, Minn.) of Eau Claire flew past defense with an assist by Jennifer Thomsen (So.- Apple Valley, Minn.) and was first to sink the puck into the net at 8:03 into the second period. St. Catherine came back to tie up the score with a power-play goal at the 16:59 mark.

Heading into overtime, it was looking like a tie game until Mariah Czech (Jr.-Andover, Minn.) notched the game-winner off an assist by Sydney Schneider (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis.) at 4:34.

Eau Claire's Kim Van Brunt (Sr.-Eagle River, Wis.) was in goal for the second consecutive game and had 14 saves for the Blugolds. Eau Claire had another impressive night with shots on goal, out-shooting St. Catherine 44-15.

Eau Claire's (8-7-4, 1-3-2) next WIAC conference game is against the UW-Superior Yellowjackets (7-6-4, 1-3-2) next Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
