Women’s Hockey Shuts Out Auggies; Strand Earns First Career Win

MINNEAPOLIS (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team notched their first win of the 2015-16 season over Augsburg on Friday night, giving Head Coach Erik Strand his first career win as a collegiate coach.

After a scoreless first period, the Blugolds broke the tie at 6:51 in the second period thanks to a goal from Lauren Norgren (So.-Fergus Falls, MN) with an assist from Rachel Azuma (Fr.-Oak Park, IL).

Several minutes later, UW-Eau Claire took advantage of a powerplay as Mariah Czech (Jr.-Andover, MN) found the back of the net off assists from Paige Dale (Jr.-Andover, MN) and Emma Silkey (Jr.-Chaska, MN).

Ashley Baugher (Sr.-Crystal Lake, MN/Central) gave the Blu(golds an insurance goal in the third period, knocking in a goal at the 19-minute mark thanks to an assist from Julia Osowski (Sr.-Princeton,MN).

Goalie Paige Turner (Sr.-Iron River, WI/Duluth East) tallied 25 saves on the night en route to her first win of the season.

The teams will face each other again Saturday night as the Auggies travel to Eau Claire. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
