EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com)—The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire women's hockey team tied 1-1 with University of Wisconsin-Superior in overtime on Saturday afternoon for their second game of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) season.
Mariah Czech (Jr.- Andover, MN) scored in the second period to put Eau Claire ahead. She was assisted by Lexi Wilson (Fr.-Eagan, MN) and Sydney Schneider (So.-Chippewa Falls, WI). Goalie Paige Turner (Sr.- Iron River, WI/Duluth East) stopped Superior from scoring on a breakaway towards the end of the period to maintain the Blugold lead.
With less than half of the third period left, UW-Superior came back with a goal on Eau Claire, tying up the score.
Both teams had strong offensive plays during overtime, but the game ended locked at 1.
Turner had a great game this afternoon, with a total of 39 saves for Eau Claire.
The Blugolds (3-1-2, 1-0-1) play again on Friday afternoon against University of Wisconsin-River Falls (2-2-0, 0-1-0). The game starts at 3 p.m. in Eau Claire.
