Three Blugolds earn NFCA All-Region honors

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Three University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball players earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Central All-Region honors, the NFCA announced Monday.

Evie Schaller (Jr. – Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) and Leah Wolff (Jr.-Middleton, WI) were named to the First Team while teammate Lauren Blasczyk (Jr. – Appleton, WI/East) was named to the Second Team.

Schaller, earning First Team honors at shortstop, was the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Co-Position Player of the Year after leading the conference in overall hits (52), RBIs (43), doubles (15), total bases (79) and was second in the conference in overall batting average (.409), slugging percentage (.622), on base percentage (.461) and tied for fourth in homeruns (4).

The junior transfer led the team in eight offensive categories in her first season at Eau Claire. Schaller produced at least one hit in 29 of 40 games, including 15 multi-hit contests. Schaller matched a school single-game record with five hits against St. Norbert College (Wis.) on May 2. 

Wolff was named to the First Team at second base after tying for third in the WIAC for overall hits (48), was fourth in sacrifice bunts (8) and sixth for batting average (.372). In WIAC games, the junior tallied a batting average of .417 and on base percentage of .472, both third in conference play.

Blasczyk was named Second Team All-Region as a pitcher after being named to the All-WIAC First Team for the second year in a row. She led the WIAC with an overall ERA of 1.51 and was a perfect 7-0 in the WIAC regular season, her second-straight year without giving up a loss during WIAC regular season play. The junior was second in the WIAC in overall wins (14) was fifth in opposing batting average (.236).
