Lorbetske and Thorson WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON,WIS.(Blugolds.com)-UW-Eau Claire softball player, Zana Lorbetske (Sr., Rhineland, Wis./Three Lakes) and men’s outdoor track athlete Josh Thorson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), were both recognized as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, as announced by WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek earlier today.

Lorbetske, Blugold's pitcher, went 3-1 with a save during the week, posting a 0.72 earned run average. She struck out 24 in 29.1 innings and gave up three earned runs as the Eau Claire went 6-1-1. In game one of the Blugold sweep against UW-Whitewater on April 16, she got herself out of a bases-loaded, nobody out jam by striking out the next three batters to retire the side.

Thorson took second place in the 5,000-meter run at the UW-Platteville Invitational and was the top collegiate runner in the race. His time leads the nation and the WIAC, while also establishing a Blugold school record.

Blugold softball takes on UW-Steven Point at home April 21 in a double header at 4 and 6pm. The men’s track and field team is also competing that day, heading to La Crosse for a 2pm meet.
