Women’s Cross Country wins Luther Saga Cup; Cisewski is overall champion

DECORAH, IA (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's cross country team raced at the Luther Saga Cup hosted by Luther College. The women won the meet with a score of 25 points.

Lizzy Cisewski (So. Stevens Point, WI/Pacelli High School) was the overall champion and won the meet with a time of 22:53.4. Cisewski said her race went well and the team executed their race plan successfully.

"Our team talk before the race was all about giving it your all and just having fun – because we knew we were in contention to win," Cisewski said. "I think we all executed the race plan well which led us to success!"

The next Blugold to finish was Hannah Lamack (So. – Kewaunee,WI/Kewaunee High School) who placed 4th with a time of 23:48. Following Lamack was Hanna Reed (Sr. – Fort Atkinson, WI/Fort Atkinson) who finished 5th with a time of 23:48.6.

Karen Gomez-Ruiz (Sr. – Chatfield, MN/Chatfield) and Rebecca Whipple (Sr. – Madison, WI/ Madison West) were runners 4 and 5 for the team. Gomez-Ruiz finished 7th with a time of 24:01.2. Whipple placed 8th with a time of 24:08.9.

Katie Faris (Fr. – Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls) finished 11th with a time of 24:15.6 and Grace Vogt (Fr. – Manitowoc, WI/Manitowoc Lutheran) finished 13th with a time of 24:28. Faris and Vogt rounded out the top 7 for the Blugold women.

Head Coach Dan Schwamberger was pleased with how the team ran on Friday. Schwamberger said he is looking forward for the upcoming NCAA Regionals Meet.

The top 7 Blugold women will race this Saturday, November 10 at the NCAA Regionals Meet. The meet will be hosted by UW-Eau Claire at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, WI.
