Women's Cross Country Wins Lake Wissota Invite

LAKE WISSOTA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team took first place out of four teams at its own Lake Wissota Invitational at Lake Wissota State Park today.

The Blugolds finished with 25 points with six Blugolds finishing in the top eight. Viterbo University finished second with 43 while UW-La Crosse was third with 67 and UW-River Falls took fourth with 120.

Leading the Blugolds was Alana Jenkins (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who took third place with a time of 18:51 on the 5,000-meter course.

Teresa Coughlin (Sr.-Coon Rapids, Minn.) came in next, in fourth with a time of 19:03 while Jami Riley (So.-Fairmont, Minn.) crossed the finish line five seconds later in fifth place.

Right on the heels of Riley was Shaina Weatherhead (So.-New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper), who came in sixth one second later.

Shelby Owens (Fr.-Mineral Point, Wis.) and Erica Tiffany (Sr.-North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) nearly crossed the line together, with Owens taking seventh and Tiffany taking eighth.

The Blugolds will now turn their attention to the WIAC Championship, hosted by UW-Stout. The meet will take place at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, where the Blugolds host their annual Blugold Open, next Saturday.
