Volleyball Comes Back to Defeat UW-La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Despite falling in the opening set, the 16th-ranked UW-Eau Claire volleyball team won the next three sets to beat UW-La Crosse 3-1 at Mitchell Hall today.

The Blugolds (11-3, 5-1 WIAC) got off to a slow start and dropped the first set 25-21. But the Blugolds turned it up a notch to take the next three sets to get the match victory.

Eau Claire won the second set 25-14 and the third set 25-16 before dominating the fourth set. In the final set, the Blugolds jumped out to a 6-0 lead before a La Crosse timeout. The Eagles (9-5, 3-2 WIAC) got one point back following the timeout but the Blugolds soon found themselves with a 17-2 advantage. The Blugolds went on to win 25-11.

The Blugolds, who have won four matches in a row, outhit the Eagles .215 to .008 and had 51 kills to La Crosse's 26.

Danielle Lucia (Sr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) led the match with 13 kills while Elizabeth Anderson (Jr.-Rib Lake, Wis.) and Rachel Ver Voort (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Middleton) each added 10.

Blair Murphy (Sr.-Hermantown, Minn.) finished with 18 digs to lead the Blugolds while Amanda Lessner (Sr.-Watertown, Wis.) had a match-high 38 assists.

The Blugolds will be back in action Wednesday when they head to Duluth, Minn. to face Northland College and the College of St. Scholastica. Action will get underway at 6:30 p.m.
