LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - On a typical Wisconsin spring day, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Track and Field teams braved the blustery cold on Saturday for the Ashton May Invitational.
In a tough first outdoor meet of the season, the women were led by senior captain Sam Anderson who finished third in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 51.28 meters. Despite a third place finish, she is ranked seventh in the country.
Senior Julia Stedman finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.18 meters, and freshman Lizz Ottusch also took third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60 meters.
The men were led by a first place finish by big man Alex Mess, who won the shot put with a mark of 15.93, good for 13th in the country.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Kevin Brooks, Connor Drexler, Erik Van Vleet, and Jimmy Paske took third with a time of 3:23.71.
Sophomore Cody Andrus took third in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 22.46.
The Blugolds head south to the UW-Platteville Invitational next weekend and hope for warmer weather.
