Blugold Wrestling Picks up Win, Top Finishes at Open

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team earned a win and eight other top-six finishes today at the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open hosted by Augsburg College (Minn.).

Tyler Kennedy (So.-Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) was crowned champion in the 184 pound C2 bracket. He enjoyed one bye round and beat two opponents in his pursuit of the victory.

Ethan Gusek also led the Eau Claire team by scoring a third place in the 174 pound C2 competition. The Blugold team nailed two fifth place finishes, with Joshua Baier (So.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Rosemount) representing Eau Claire in the 149 second bronze bracket and Will Christ (Jr.-Shell Lake, Wis.) at 184 in the bronze competition.

Eau Claire also scored sixth place finishes from Neil Manns (So.-Columbia Heights, Minn.) in the 125 pound silver bracket, Kyle Heise (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) at 149 in the bronze event, and Jacob Hoffstatter (Fr.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) in the 157 pound second bronze competition. James Hennick (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Craig Eckelberg (Jr.-Tomah, Wis.) also posted sixth place results in the 165 pound bronze and C1 brackets, respectively.

The Blugolds have just a couple days off before returning to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday for an away meet against Luther College (Iowa).
