Women’s Hockey Ends Regular Season With Sweep

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team ended its regular season with a 5-0 shutout and weekend sweep of Finlandia University.

The Blugolds did not waste time scoring the first goal of the afternoon.  Dani Kerr (Jr. – Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) found the back of the net seventeen seconds in.  Emily Haluska (Jr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) scored her fifth goal of the season at 3:54 to increase the Blugolds lead in the first period to 2-0.

The second period was fairly quiet for the Blugolds as they only scored one goal.  The goal came at 6:32 when Emily Larson (So.-Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) fired one in on the power play opportunity.  Her goal put the Blugolds up 3-0.

Larson got another power play goal in the third period at 5:27 when a Lion skater was called for checking from behind.  That goal was Larson's second of the afternoon.  Haluska collected her second goal of the night, an unassisted goal, at 17:00.  Her goal was the final of the night putting the Blugolds up 5-0.

The Blugolds once again outshot the Lions 51-16.  Morgan Pieper (Sr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad) got her last career regular season win as a Blugold.  She had 16 saves on the night.  Ashley Pavlish got the loss for the Lions.  She had 46 saves on the night and allowed five goals.

Next weekend the Blugolds will head to UW-River Falls to take on the No. 8 Falcons in the first round of the NCHA Tournament.  The puck will drop at 7:05 Friday night at Hunt Arena.
