Women's Golf to Open with Doug Georgianni Memorial Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team will open 2011 by hosting its annual Doug Georgianni Memorial Invitational this weekend.

The two-day event, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, will feature 20 different teams from Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan. Saturday the teams will compete at Mill Run Golf Course while the tournament will wrap up Sunday at Wild Ridge Golf Course.

The Blugolds return a solid group of golfers, including four out of five who competed on last year's NCAA Division III Championship team that tied for 10th place while also winning a WIAC title. Those returners are Jamie Hauser (Sr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead)Sara Mattes (Sr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central)Emily Swift (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) and Catherine Wagner (Jr.-Austin, Minn.).

Also back are letterwinners Lauren Gault (Sr.-Shorewood, Wis.) and Maggie Lattery (Sr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern). Newcomers on this year's team are Samantha Dvorsak (Fr.-Corcoran, Minn./Rockford)Kate Engler (Fr.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner)Mandi Salo (Fr.-Hermantown, Minn.) and Emily Stone (Fr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.).

The Blugolds, under second year head coach Meghan Sobotta, are looking for their third straight WIAC title this season.
