DULUTH, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team kept the brooms out after their sweep over UW-Whitewater yesterday, sweeping St. Scholastica winning 3-0 and 7-2 on Sunday at Kenwood Field.
The Blugolds continued their hot streak winning their fourth in a row led by third baseman Brooke Varian (Fr. – Madison, WI) who finished 3-6 on the day between the two games sending her average to .333 for the season.
Varian got things going early hitting her second homerun of the season on a solo shot in the second inning in game one.
Pitcher Zana Lorbetske (Sr. – Rhinelander, WI) earned her seventh win of the season pitching all seven innings in the shutout giving up just three hits.
UW-Eau Claire found more offense in the second game scoring seven runs as nine different Blugolds recorded hits.
Six of the 10 runs scored by the Blugolds came in the third inning as Evie Schaller (Jr. – Chippewa Falls, WI), Rachel Heffel (Jr. – Racine, WI), Bri Calder (Fr. – Corcoran, MN), and Jessica Heffel (Fr. – Racine, WI) all drove in runs on singles in the inning.
Pitcher Lauren Blasczyk (Jr. – Appleton, WI/East) got the start in game two and surrendered just one run on three hits earning her fourth win of the season.
UW-Eau Claire (15-10-1) will return to action April 21st as they look to stay hot heading home for two games in WIAC conference play against UW-Stevens Point.
