Stegeman Places 1st, Dolan 2nd As Track & Field Competes at Day 1 of WIAC Championship

LA CROSSE, WI (blugolds.com) - On the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire featured many great performances on a beautiful Friday evening. After the first day of competition, the men's team currently sits in 2nd place with 37 points, with meet host UW-La Crosse in 1st place with 67 points. The women's team sits in 4th place with 21 points, with meet host UW-La Crosse in 1st place with 93 points.

Mitch Stegeman (So.- Coleman, WI/Suring) earned the Blugolds' first conference championship of the weekend, winning the Pole Vault with a mark of 4.70m. Abrahm Schroedl (Sr.- Deforest, WI/Deforest) and Owen Williams (So.- Two Rivers, WI/TwoRivers) both tied for 3rd place in the Pole Vault, each vaulting 4.55m.

In the men's Decathlon, Marcus Weaver (So.- Lewiston, MN/Lewiston-Altura) currently leads the competition, scoring 3,686 points after the first five events. Max Foland (Fr.- Middleton, WI/Middleton) sits in 3rd place in the Decathlon after the first five events, scoring 3,365 points.

In the women's Hepathlon, Emilee Booker (Fr.- Genoa City, WI/Badger) currently sits 2nd in the competition, scoring 2,619 points after the first four events. Jane Kautz (Jr.- Port Washington, WI/Port Washington) sits in 4th place in the Heptathlon, scoring 2,575 points. Emma Gruen (Fr.- Elroy, WI/Royal) and Gabby Semerad (Jr.- Eau Claire, WI/Regis) currently sit in 6th and 7th place in the Heptathlon, respectively.

Connor Dolan (Sr.- Nekoosa, WI/Assumption) earned an impressive runner-up performance in the 3000m Steeplechase, running a PR of 9:06. This ranks him seventh in NCAA Division III this year in that event.

Many more Blugolds have qualified for finals and will compete tomorrow for Day 2 of the WIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The final day of the WIAC Championship is set to begin at 10:30AM.
